Trey, Jesse and Lauren splashing in the fountain on the Detroit Riverwalk during the Red Bull Air Race, June 2008Lauren (13) finished the 8th grade and will start her last year at the Jr. High school in the fall. Lauren maintained straight A's in class and won several academic honors. In addition, her Future Problem Solvers team won the state competition and earned the right to compete in the international competition against teams from all over the world. Outside of school, both she and Jesse are competing on the school's equestrian team this summer. They helped the team win their first District competition. We are hopeful that she will compete on the Cross Country team again this fall. Jesse (12) finished her last year at middle school, and will join Lauren in the fall at Jr. High. Though not as enthusiastic about her school work as Lauren, she still manages to produce mostly A's on her report cards. Jesse has become quite skilled on the Cello and will continue in the Orchestra at Jr. High. Much to Nicole's pleasure, she has also gained an interest in playing volleyball, and has participated on several rec-league teams with an eye toward making the school's team in the fall. Trey will turn 7 in August and will enter the 2nd grade. Trey is quite the social butterfly at school and has many friends. When forced to concentrate on his studies he does well. Both Trey and Zach have played basketball, flag football and T-ball/baseball depending on season, and they have also taken swim lessons. Zach will turn 6 in August, and is scheduled for kindergarten (after doing 'Young Fives" last year). Zach actually is quite accomplished at math, and we are starting to think that with a little reading improvement he would be better served by going to 1st grade. Rachel turns 4 in August, and will go to morning Pre-School 3 days a week. She will also be playing soccer in the fall. After tagging along to all her sibling's schools and events, Rachel is looking forward to having her own activities. (Knock on wood) Skip is still employed and trying to help reinvent GM. Though a pay cut was implemented, we still consider ourselves blessed as many of our friends (in and out of the auto industry, in and out of metro Detroit) have been laid off completely. Nicole continues to manage and grow her business, and has just about maxed out her current location. We are thinking about alternatives for expansion when her lease expires in a few years. In July, we are taking the family on a trip to Florida and the Bahamas, and Skip's Mom, Sister, and Niece will travel from Alaska for a visit. In August, Nicole will take the kids up to her Mom's cottage on Lake Huron. Anyway thanks for stopping by. Click the links at the top or bottom of the page to see the photos. |
